SUMMARY:ASPE Chapter 1 Monthly Seminar
DESCRIPTION:  Click image for downloadable Event Flyer \nHistorical Cost Tracking: Lessons During Setup and Implementation\nHaving past project cost history in a standardized format can be a game changer when determining conceptual budgets. However\, getting started often seems overwhelming. Kelly Jarman will cover a variety of lessons learned during her involvement in both early efforts to track cost history and the transition to a more widely used digital database. This includes the pros and cons of using GMP versus end-of-project costs\, other types of valuable project information that may be desired\, thinking about inflation\, and how you can use the cost history. \nKelly Jarman\, CPE\nKelly Jarman\, CPE\, is a senior estimator and cost analyst with JE Dunn Construction in Kansas City. She has been with JE Dunn for over 22 years and has been estimating for 20. Kelly has been involved in analyzing historical project costs since early in her estimating career and took over as the company cost historian in 2009. She was a key component in the move from an annual printed book to a digital database of cost history in 2018. Kelly has been a Certified Professional Estimator since 2008 and serves on Heartland Chapter 32’s board of directors. \n

SUMMARY:ASPE Los Angeles Chapter 1 Monthly Seminar
DESCRIPTION:Themed Entertainment Estimation\n♦ \n     Click to view/download event Flyer \nAnnouncement: Carl Jablonski\, CPE (the old guy on the right) is pleased to announce the publication of their new book on “Themed Entertainment Estimating”. We are under contract with Rivershore Press our publisher and editor for this first of a kind academic textbook on this discipline. The approved release date is mid – 2025.\n\nCarl’s career in show and ride estimating began at Imagineering. The focus then was how much do these elements cost? No one was addressing the cost impacts of all three elements in the construction of a themed entertainment project. This idea became a lifelong challenge to bring architects\, engineers\, construction managers and operations into the discussion. Carl calls it “The Business of Show!”  Carl’s theme at this meeting is to demonstrate his passion for bringing these elements together in what he calls – Facility\, Show and Ride .\n\nHow are these elements addressed and how do they affect each other from a cost perspective? Or do they?\n\nYou can visit Rivershore Press here:  https://rivershorepress.com

In addition to the contractor’s journey\, we will also take you through a specific use case to showcase the value Dropbox can deliver in enhancing your workflows. \n \n Shirin Arnold is the Principal Industry Solutions Lead for Construction at Dropbox. Shirin joined Dropbox at the end of 2021 from Autodesk where she held several key positions in sales and product. She was a Technical Solutions Executive for the AEC industry as well as a Group Product Manager driving the BIM 360 Field Management solutions forward. Even though she holds a Master’s in Structural Engineering from Stanford University\, she has always leaned towards the construction industry. Her interest in construction led her straight to a boots on the ground position\, with a major general contractor as a project engineer where her interest flourished. She has held various product management positions from Credit Suisse to Graphisoft where she has been able to continue to influence the construction industry.

Costs which can be applied to a particular item of work should be considered a direct cost to that item and are not to be included in overhead costs. The overhead costs are customarily divided into two categories: \n\nJob office overhead (JOOH) also referred to as General Conditions or Field Office Overhead.\nGeneral home office overhead commonly referred to as General and Administrative (G&A) costs.\n\n \nBio:   Joe Miller\, CPE has over 35 years’ experience as a General Engineering & Building Contractor and Construction Consultant working on major Public Works Projects. Currently a Senior Consultant with Lenax Construction Services\, a consulting firm that has completed projects ranging from as small as $25\,000 to over $10-billion construction value\, including Sewer and Water Infrastructure\, Rail\, Hospital\, Federal Government & Military\, and Aviation projects. He is president of Los Angeles Chapter #1 of the American Society of Professional Estimators and an instructor and guest lecturer for many of our local colleges and universities including UCLA\, CSUN\, and USC. He recognizes the importance of mentoring the next generation of Estimators and leads Seminars and other training venues for our industry. \n
